The immediate plan for Londua this year is to have some water bores drilled and to get the vocational curriculum together and approved by the Vanuatu National Training Council. Staff and student training levels need to be improved and records need to be kept for all students. The internet connection has stopped at the moment waiting for an aid donor to cover the connection costs. So communication is back to mobile phones.

2011

Londua is receiving students for the 2011 year. With the 2nd year Mechanic, Construction and Tourism students, 1st year Mechanic, Construction, Tourism and Agriculture students and the academic students we are hoping for 170 plus students this year. We are waiting for a costing to get some water bore hole prices and to be drilled at Londua to solve the low water issue at the end of each year. There are 3 work teams going to Londua this year from Sydney. Some building work and re-roofing work to be done and all will be shipshape. Thanks to the teams from last year and the excellent work that was done.

The Gap house tank has a new sealed roof to keep out vermin. There is a new stainless steel bench in the kitchen and a new larger roof and stainless steel tubs on the girls wash room.

Minister of Education

Londua had the privilege to welcome the Minister of Education to a short meeting as the ministry researches student and teacher numbers.

Paul was hard at work with many of the construction students helping to clean out and reseal concrete tanks. We are praying for rain to fill all of the colleges tanks to last them to the end of the year.

First work team for 2010

13 people arrived at Londua Technical College on the 18th July for 2 weeks. It was a good trip with lots of work being completed. Oral health was a high priority this time with Vela using a de-scaler to clean 120 students teeth and record the dental health of each student. Thanks to Ray for supplying the de-scaler and the battery operated water pump for cooling. The 12 volt air bed pump fitted to a powdered milk container worked as a sucker with a new end fitted for each patient. Dave was the first patient and then it was hard to work to get all the students who were willing into the dentist chair. Well done Vela and thank you very much for giving your time and experience. The office and year 9 and 10 class room roof was off in a day and replaced with new off white colour bond. The canteen roof also disappeared and new iron fitted. New facias, barges, painting and colour bond gutters were fitted. Keith was kept very busy painting all exposed timber before the gutters went on. Well done to all. Ian made 3 water tanks with 2 being fitted outside the bakery. Connection of these to a 120 litre hot water tank that is heated from a coil in the bread oven was completed. This will be a big help in the kitchen, bakery and dining hall.

2010 work teams

Another year and some more groups of fortunate individuals signing up to volunteer their services to assist Londua Technical College. Mid July sees a team from Queensland with a couple of ring-ins for Adelaide at Londua for 2 weeks. Early August a team from Epping in Sydney. Latter in August sees a team from Toowoomba in Queensland. And November possibly an Aboriginal group from Esperance in Western Australia. There has been some rain on West Ambae lately so the tanks have water which is great. The materials have arrived on site so it is just time until the building work starts. It is really encouraging to see the donations for materials coming in. A very big thank you to each and every person that has seen the need. Londua has around 140 students at the moment all busy learning Construction, Mechanics, Agriculture and Tourism. Londua has signed an MOU's with the Government run Vanuatu Institute of Technology to step up the the next level of recognition and responsibilities. This is a major step in the recognition of Londua providing high quality rural based vocational training. We thank the members of the Londua Council, the Vanuatu Conference Education Authority Secretary and the Londua Principal and staff as they continue to lift the qualiy of training for the rural students in Vanuatu.

60 year celebration

On the 19th May 2010 Londua is having a 60th anniversary celebration. All past staff and students are encouraged to come to Londua to be a part of these celebrations. for more details please call Londua on 38482 or the Church of Christ Conference office on 37942.

2009 Students Move on to VIT

At the end of 2009 every Londua student that applied to enter the Vanuatu Institute of Technology was accepted. 33 students were accepted into VIT for Agriculture, Mechanics, Construction and Tourism. This trend continues on from 2008 when 23 students applied and were accepted into VIT.
